FIRST Sail on the Ocean with our C&C Landfall 43 [E296]
Leaving New York to sail South has a few challenges. The first one is to find the right weather window to sail along the New Jersey Coast late October. We take our chance for this 133NM crossing which means an overnight sail with a 4 months old baby and a 2 year old. We have to be creative. Filmed October 2023.

Boats are DRAGGING | Leaving NYC for the Storm [295]

NYC is amazing, especially when you sail next to Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. With a storm coming our way we make our way down the Hudson River to Coney Island. After a bumpy ride and a way too narrow entrance we finally find protection, or so we thought. Strong wind have boats dragging all around us. Filmed October 2023. Seems that your big first sail in the ocean went pretty well. Of course, it does mean night shift duty, complicated as discussed by parental responsibilities. But at last we're headed south, toward warm weather! Coral not intimidated by the ocean waves. Glad to see the Dolphins join you at the end. I had been thinking that the arrival of _Intrepid_ in the Atlantic would be a momentous occasion, and a couple months ago I drafted the following for an anticipated fb blurb: "Wildy Intrepid enters the Atlantic Ocean at New York, after a long, well-videographed journey through the Great Lakes, the Erie Canal, and the Hudson River. They now turn south. After a year of work on their new project boat- one large enough to accommodate their growing family- Cory and Alex are excited to return to their getaway in the Caribbean. Their energetic two-year-old, Coral, will soon run across beaches that she once could only crawl upon. Coral helps to watch baby brother Kai, who will get his first taste of the tropics. Cory and Alex know well how to live the Bahamas."

    To cure small fractures and rivelets of water and around hatches, skylightsstanchion bases, etc., try Captain Tolleys Crack Cure. It works by capillary action. The liquid is drawn into invisable fractures in the sealant and solidifies. I have used it for years with amazing results. Alan J. S/V Skol Catalina 400

    An interesting place to get stuck- near the Statue of Liberty, just before the ocean- but tough days here. I think anyone can imagine the frustration with the leaks, knowing you've been working on them since the day you got the boat. If you ever solve this riddle, we'd love to hear how you did it. Kudos for helping the distressed boat. Sounds like the next day will be a big one.

    I have never seen a 2-blade propeller on any boat. And torque is relatively irrelevant on a boat. Torque is what gets a dragster down a dragstrip fast. So now you have all the complication of two diesel engines, plus all the complication of all the solar/electric equipment as well. I'm sorry, but that just seems nutty.

  • @JaywalkingTheWorld
    @JaywalkingTheWorld 11 дней назад

    20 miles a day! Yeah ...... most boat people would not be happy with that. And here's the problem, when you've done that distance and you've drained your batteries and the Sun is going down. Then you've got night time, so no charge. And then you wake up with a bunch of drained batteries, so you can't move until you've charged your batteries. If only there were a way of moving the boat across the water using the wind.

    "100% Solar Electric Catamaran" this is not true. @ 5:57 he states that he has 2 diesel generators "for backup or cruising 24 hours a day". Earlier in the video he states that the boat is set up to "island hop 20 miles a day" on solar/battery power.

    Electric boats should be the default form of propulsion for leisure craft like cats where they have plenty of space for solar & battery. If there is an engine at all, it can be small in-line one to charge the battery or drive the motor in exceptional circumstances.

    @annoyboyPictures 15 дней назад

    5:49 - so they have a Diesel Generator Engine.... so this is not a 100% Solar Boat... its just a gimmick... you are still relying on Fossil Fuels as the primary back up because Solar is useless and unreliable.

  • @ThomasTomiczek
    @ThomasTomiczek 15 дней назад

    Amazing example of what is possible. if you replace the solar with modern ones you should get like 35% more electricity. They did some breakthrough on solar cells in the last months - which should be soon in production. If you are lucky and Avalanche works out (a company) then you can take this whole setup, scrap it and put an Orbitron on each side of the hull and have more power, 24/7 and can run the engines full power as they together give you 30kw++ (I hear designs up to 100kw each are being worked on for a unit small enough to fit on a desk)) using ridiculous amounts of fuel (100kW, 24/h is around 0.2 GRAMS). Until then - AMAZING thing.
